Could someone give me a list and description of all the comics Kevin has written?
Oni Double Feature #1 – The first ever comic appearance by Jay and Silent Bob, and the answer to the question "how fast IS Walt Flanagan’s dog?"
Clerks: The Comic Book – Randal and Dante return, and Randal has a get-rich quick scheme.
Clerks: Holiday Special – Ever wonder what’s behind the mysterious door in between the Quik-Stop and RST Video? Randal has. Also, the return of Caitlin Bree.
Clerks: The Lost Scene – It was scripted but never filmed (due to lack of money). Find out what really happened in the funeral home at Julie Dwyer’s funeral.
Oni Double Feature #12 – A brand-new "Bluntman & Chronic" story (different than what is seen in the movie Chasing Amy).
Jay & Silent Bob mini-series #1-4 – The mini-series that bridges the gap between Chasing Amy and Dogma. Why were Jay and Silent Bob going to "chi-town?" How did they end up outside the abortion clinic that Bethany worked at? Where did they get those clothes?
Daredevil (Marvel Knights) # 1-8 – The critically acclaimed "Guardian Devil" arc that helped solidify Kevin’s name as one of the preeminent comic book writers today. At a time when Matt Murdoch is questioning his faith, it is only his faith that can pull him through.
Who did the Bluntman & Chronic artwork that can be seen in Chasing Amy?
That would be the lovely and talented Mike Allred, of Madman and Red Rocket 7 fame. Be sure to check out Mike's first film Astroesque, out on video now. And also be on the look out for Eyes to Heaven, a film by Mike's Droog Bros., Inc partner, Shane Hawks, which features one Dave Klein doing cinematography.
Who got to keep all of the comic art from the opening of Mallrats?
All but the "Brodieman" pieces align the walls of Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank. We hear that the "Brodieman" cover was at the Chicago ComicCon last year going for $400. No idea where it's been since then!
How come all the comic stuff in Mallrats is marvel?
When you sign to get a comic company involved, you basically sign an exclusive thing saying that you'll only use that company. However, the Batman gear Silent Bob wears AND the Superman/Lois/Children speech do indeed reference DC characters!
Is Gwen from Mallrats named after Gwen Stacey, from Spider-man?
Nope, after a friend of Kev’s, Guinivere Turner, who wrote the film Go Fish and gave Kevin some help on the Chasing Amy script in regards to the lesbian stuff (she also played the singer chick).
How do comics tie in to Chasing Amy?
Jason Lee's and Ben Affleck's characters, Banky and Holden, respectively, create a comic called Bluntman and Chronic, based on Jay and Silent Bob. Alyssa Jones, played by Joey, also creates comics, mainly Idiosyncratic Routine. Mike Allred, Madman creator, as well as Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, creators of Ash and Azrael, show up.
What is Banky's solo project "Baby Dave" a reference to?
Dave Klein's nickname. He shaves his head for shoots thus making him look like a baby.
What is the comic book called "37?"
"37" is the name of the first comic book that Banky and Holden put out in Chasing Amy. It was about two guys who work in a grocery store.
Why are all of Kevin’s book so late?
To be fair, there have indeed been some problems with Kevin’s books. However, Kevin has vowed that he will no longer allow any of his books to be late again. It looks like publishers such as Oni Press and DC will not solicit for Kevin’s books until they are sure he is done with them.
Is Kevin really writing Green Arrow?
It looks like this is definitely going to happen now. Kevin has stated that he is in the middle of writing the first books right now, but DC will not solicit for the book until Kevin has finished at least nine scripts. The last date mentioned was somewhere toward the winter of 2000.
Which Green Arrow will Kevin use? Connor Hawke? Or Oliver Queen?
Kevin has stated that he really wants to use Oliver Queen. Connor will probably stick around, but Kevin plans on bringing back the original.
I heard that Kevin was asked to do an arc of "No Man’s Land." Is that true?
Yes it is. Kevin turned it down because he was too busy, and because he wasn’t sure if he really wanted to work on the "No Man’s Land" project.
Did Kevin initially turn down Daredevil?
He did turn it down at one point. One of the story arcs that he had wanted to do (Matt Murdoch getting his sight back) had been done recently, and Kevin only wanted to do it if he knew he was confident about his story. But Jimmy and Joe bugged him enough that he finally consented.
Is Kevin going to write any more on Daredevil?
The initial plan was that Kevin would indeed return to the book sometime in the near future. Whether that is still going to happen remains to be seen.
What happened with Mysterio and John Byrne? Why did the character come back after Kevin had killed him?
Good question. Unfortunately, the answer depends on whom you want to believe. Byrne claims that Kevin, Jimmy and Joe never made their plans to kill Mysterio available to him, so he had no idea it was going to happen. Some folks at Marvel say that they never gave the "Knights" boys permission to kill the character. Kevin and crew claim that it was all done with the full knowledge and approval of the folks at Marvel. Whatever the reason, for better or worse (the latter according to Wizard Magazine), Mysterio’s death has been ret-conned.
What other projects is Kevin working on right now?
Besides Green Arrow, Kevin is also currently slated to finish a Bartleby and Loki one-shot and the Mallrats mini-series. The Bartleby and Loki one-shot is slated to be a 50 (or so) page story detailing how these two angels confronted God and were kicked out of Heaven and forced to stay in Wisconsin. The Mallrats mini-series will be based on a sequel idea that Kevin had originally had if the flick did well. It could effectively be described as "Die Hard in a Mall."
Will all the characters from Mallrats return?
Good question. However, no one but Kevin really knows the answer right now. At one point Wizard reported that Oni Press was in negotiations to use Stan Lee’s likeness in the comic. Kevin has also hinted that Shannen Hamilton may be the villain of the story, which could be supported by the fact that on page 7 of Clerks: The Comic Book a picture of Hamilton’s face appears on the side of a milk carton and he is listed as "missing."
Are the comic versions of "Chasing Amy," "Baby Dave" or any of the other comics seen in the movie Chasing Amy available?
None of the comic books seen in the movie have ever actually come out in comic book form. The only one available at all is one of the Bluntman & Chronic stories, which you can read in the Clerks/Chasing Amy script book.
Someone told me there is a manga comic version of Chasing Amy. Is there really?
Yes there is. Check the Jay and Silent Bob Secret Stash web page to see if it is still available.
Did I see a Clerks one-page comic in Talk magazine?
Yes you did. It was a one-page short by Kevin and Clerks artist Jim Mahfood, and it appeared in the issue with Arnold Scwarzenegger on the cover.
Does Banky really appear in Clerks: The Comic Book somewhere?
Yes he does. We’d tell you where, but it’s more fun if you find it yourself.
What is this I heard about a comic Kevin wrote called Vulgarities? Is it real? If so where can I find it?
What you heard is a distortion of the truth. There is a project coming out that is called Vulgarities. It is not a comic written by Kevin, but rather the official fan magazine of View Askew (a la Bantha Tracks in the Star Wars universe). The editor is Paul Smith (who posts under the name Paulapalooza on the web board), and it is scheduled to come out sometime this year.
Can I apply for a job as a writer for Vulgarities?
No. They don’t currently need anyone right now.
What are the different collected format versions for the Jay and Silent Bob mini-series and the Clerks series?
The Jay and Silent Bob (Chasing Dogma) mini-series has appeared in three different collected formats. The limited edition hardcover version, the regular soft cover edition, and the Dynamic Forces alternate cover edition, with an original Jae Lee cover.
The Clerks mini-series has only been collected in the soft cover version, with an original cover by Clerks: The Cartoon artist Chris Bailey.
Did one of Kevin’s comics appear in the Small Press Expo?
No. But the cover of the Small Press Expo did have a Matt Wagner drawing of Jay and Silent Bob.
