View Askew NewsBites™ 2:The Sequel

  • Gene Beilfuss dropped us a quick line to let us know that the thing we mentioned a while back about Kevin’s mention of adding some nods to the Askewniverse when he writes the Fletch script is actually true. We musta missed that when Kev posted about it on the WWWBoard. Speaking of the web board, there’s been some questions as to where Kevin is and why he’s not posting. Sure, it’s possible he’s a bit tired of posting on there, we sure get tired of keeping up from time to time, but chances are he’s just busy writing the Dogma novel, working on the comics, signing swag, or something more work-related. Don’t worry folks…He wouldn’t leave us without at least telling us why. And that’s all we gotta say about that.
  • Congrats to Erik Burnham on the success of his Art Askew site. It’s gotten 100 hits over a very short time, and he’s getting some nice submissions as well. Send him some stuff and get noticed!
  • BY THE WAY…Notice we added our famous “Drinks Askew Now!” button to the “Steal This” section of our links in the left table. If you link to us (and we DO appreciate it!), try and use this button in conjunction. Thanks!

Stupid Dogma Preview

October 14th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

“DOGMA” Kevin Smith (“Chasing Amy”) next tells the story of a woman chosen by renegade angels to save humanity. Smith will play a role alongside “Chasing Amy” stars Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams. Jason Scott Lee (“Jungle Book”) is in talks to play the angel of death. (Miramax) (Reported April 1997)

Could this article be any MORE wrong??? It’s SO incorrect, it’s just plain funny. Makes you wonder who some of these people running these websites are and if they know their ass from a hole in the ground.

Dark Horizons

When Kevin Smith was asked “Are Jay and Silent Bob going to be in it (Fletch 3)?”, his reply: “Oh, I’ve got plans for all sorts of crossovers in Fletch”. Interesting prospect huh?.

We’re not sure if Kevin even said this, or if it would be at all true, but we figured we’d let you know anyway. Most likely some characters may be given “familar” names (as in the Supes script) but that would probably be it.

Viewaskew Productions

  • Here’s Vincent’s reply to the ever popular “When’s ViewAskew’s other movies going to come to my town?” questions. Hopefully this post will give you all the answers and can help stop all the inquires about independent View Askew produced projects:
Hey dude- there are two other non-Kevin View Askew productions- A BETTER PLACE and BIG HELIUM DOG. That having been said, no, there are no plans afoot as of yet for any of these films to be released. Why? Because they are independent productions, and it is not easy to get distribution for films costing less than $100,000 apiece and shot on 16mm. Both A BETTER PLACE and DRAWING FLIES are complete, and FLIES has shown at a few film festivals, while A BETTER PLACE (which was directed by some asshole) was recently shown at the Independent Feature Film Market in NYC, and will be shown in competition at the prestigious Hamptons International Film Festival next week (it screens on October 17th and 18th), after which it will be shown at the Walter Reade Theater in NYC as a part of their “Independents Night” program on October 23rd at 6:30 PM. If all goes well at these fests, then, maybe, A BETTER PLACE could get picked up for distribution. I don’t know how the distribution prospects for DRAWING FLIES are at this time. As for VULGAR and BIG HELIUM DOG, both of these productions just completed principal photography and are currently editing.

They should complete post-production sometime around the first quarter of 1998, and will, hopefully, be onto the festival circuit shortly thereafter.

Commentary

October 12th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Why have the updates been so infrequent lately? Well, the answer is pretty simple, actually. We’ve been busy. Normally, one of us can pick up some slack for the other, but I’m in the process of training for a new position at the job and Chris is working some erratic hours, plus our weekends have been jam packed as well. So, we apologize for skipping a day here and there. If we miss anything important, please let us know. I check e-mail daily, and if something major happens we’ll do whatever we can to get the story online immediately. Thanks for understanding! Let’s catch up with some…

“Rock” On…

October 9th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

Here’s what Kevin had to say about Chris Rock’s involvment in “Lethal Weapon 4″… Looks like we’ll still be seeing him in Dogma. Glad to hear that no last minute casting changes had tobe made. By the way, if you’re following Rock lately, he’ll be on Leno tonight.

The Sounds Of Amy…

October 9th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Can’t wait for the video release? Interested in hearing some Amy dialogue clips that you can’t find on the ViewAskew site? We got this e-mail from Benajmin Lesbian about a site that he set up:
I’ve started posting sounds from my bootleg copy of chasing amy on my web pages: http://www.fanarchy.com/too-askew

Some of the sounds will have some difference from those in the movie - ie, the .wav of Hooper and Banky arguing over “Archie” does not have “The Impression That I Get” in the background. I plan to post at least 20 sounds by day’s end, including sounds of some of the scenes that are edited differently (ie - Alyssa’s friends digging on her for going straight).

Hopefully, this will tide fans over until the laser disc.

We stopped by to take a look at the site. Not too much there, yet, but we assume Ben plans to throw up some more sound clips here and there…Hell, maybe he’ll even take requests.
