• I thought I’d try something a little different today, and fill you in on some of the not-so-monumental-but-still-important-because-it’s-Askew news in nice, small easy to digest portions. You might have missed some of this stuff, even if you are a regular web board reader. Here we go:

• Kevin will be in Red Bank until September, when he goes to Europe to promote Chasing Amy, which, by the way, is making money hand over fist in Australia. Stop by the Stash and maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of him!
• The only ANNOUNCED castings for Dogma so far: Ben Affleck as Bartleby and of course, our heroes Jay and Silent Bob as biblical prophets. Kev’s up to draft four of the script, and it’s still not final. We recommend you see the movie before reading the script, anyway.
• Randy Bowen is rumored to be possibly sculpting some Askew characters, has expressed an interest in creating a Jay and Silent Bob sculpted magnet, along the lines of the Grendel and Hellboy magnets recently released by Bowen Designs.
• “Name” will be the title of the film AFTER the film after Dogma. (Confused?). A new rumor hinted by Kev on the Dogma followup film will be “something of a return to 80’s yesteryear”. We’re still gonna go out on a limb and say an amusement park is somehow involved, as well.

• Well, looks like CNN does their best to do a quick editing job on those Larry King Live shows so only the people who watch at 9:00 get to see what an idiot Larry really is. The last time I remember watching that show, he had on the cast of Friends and didn’t know any of their real names OR character’s names. What a buffoon. But I digress. Anyway, here’s the transcript of what you probably missed:

• Just when we thought there wasn’t any other major news happening today, Kevin had to come onto the View Askew web board and post this one. This is BIG NEWS, people! Here we go…

Awwww, not even to US, Kev? We wouldn’t tell…Well…On second thought, maybe you should keep it a secret, after all. So, looks like we’ll be seeing the fabled Lost Mallrats Footage after all! We gotta admit, this took us by surprise, but it’s a glorious day for us laserdisc fanatics. Hopefully this deal will go through, and we’ll (of course) have all the info on this for you on this BREAKING news as it develops. And now back to your regularly scheduled surfing…

• Tonight, this news page celebrated its 1,000th hit in just the 8th day since its resurfacing. We just wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks to View Askew (Especially Ming for the links and Kevin for the support), and especially thanks to all of you for continuing to visit us and write us. We plan on being around for a long time. Here’s to the next thousand!

• There’s not too much going on today, so we thought we’d take the extra time to give the site a little makeover. After all, we did clock in close to 800 hits in the past week. We thought that we’d better at least keep it interesting for you, therefore, this little makeover. Let us know what you think! Oh, and you see that links section over there on the left? If you’ve got a GOOD View Askew related site over there, let us know. We’ll take a look at it, and, perhaps add it to the list.

• Well, some of you may have heard VioLenT BoB’s mention of BHD on Esoterica last weekend, and it looks like our old friend Ralph has even topped that one. On tonight’s Larry King Live, Ralph managed to call in and get the words “Big Helium Dog” on the air. Check out this excerpt from his e-mail to us earlier this evening:

Anyway, the show will be rerun tonight at 2:00 AM EST. We’ll be taping it, of course, and hope to have a more complete story for you tomorrow. Looks like they’ll hafta chalk Ralph in for an extra in the flick now! If Ralph’s still willing to shave his head, that is…

• Kev had planned to meet with Gwyneth Paltrow for a lunch to discuss “things”, most likely a possible “Dogma” casting, but it appears that lunch plans fell through. We’re not sure what this means for her possible involvement with the film now, or if this was even the original intention. It’s all just speculation, folks, but we thought we’d share anyway.

• Got a note from Garett, a guy who went to Pix Poster Cellar. He tells us that they have “Dogma” scripts there, so if you’re one of those people who likes to ruin a movie before they see it, by all means go (or call) and get it here. Both ourselves and Kevin strongly recommend you wait until you see the film before you read the script, however.

• September’s Playboy Magazine has an article entitled “The Buzz” with different lists of what’s cool and hip at the moment. One of the sections includes a celebrity guest list for a millenium New Year’s party. And who’s first on the list? None other than Kevin Smith! See page 122 for the article, or, if you’re not quite of age or just don’t have access to the issue, here’s who else joined the ranks, if you’re interested:

• All kinds of stuff’s going on here…In fact, between trips to Hershey Park, the PA Renaissance Faire, and Stoudt’s Beer Festival, it’s amazing this update is happening at all. But we know you’re dying for some news, and we’re just too dedicated to leave ya hangin’. Tomorrow, we’re going to archive the July news, which you’ll be able to access thru the menu at the top of the screen. News will never go away, it’ll just be archived. The logo contest ends this Saturday.We’re updating the GLOBAL RULES for the drinking games with a new one, so you’ll want to get the latest files for all 3 of the games if you’re playing along at home.
