  • A guy named Vinny mailed us and let us know that he did a makeup job on Chris Rock for a Rolling Stone layout and had the chance to ask him a quick question about Dogma. He said that he was a “very cool guy, was very high on the script for Dogma, and seems like a fun person to work with.” Just thought you folks might like to know.

Another Supes Update…

  • Ok, if you think I’m talking too much about this, just tell me, but now I hear that Nicolas Cage has completely agreed to wearing THREE different costumes throughout the movie to help with toy merchandising, as well as driving some sort of “SuperCar”, which also will be of course created into ANOTHER toy. It really sucks seeing such a great script getting turned into this, especially after waiting so many years for another GOOD Superman movie. Alright, I’m done.

All Washed Up…

  • We apologize for the lack of updates today, but promise to make up for it tomorrow. We finally got our hands on a second-hand washer and dryer today and were busy moving it in, hooking it up, and cleaning up the water that the washer spewed all over our basement floor. If anyone lives in the Central PA area and knows how to fix washers, please let me know. For now, guess it’s back to the laundromat for us. Come back tomorrow for some real news.

Smith’s ‘Dogma’ Lures Young Faithful

By Monica Roman

NEW YORK (Variety) - “Chasing Amy” writer/director Kevin Smith has assembled the cast for his new project “Dogma”, a comedic fantasy set against a supernatural background. Linda Fiorentino, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Rock, Alan Rickman and Jason Mewes have signed on for the Miramax project, which is scheduled to begin principal photography in February.

“This is no doubt our most ambitious effort to date, with a cast to match,” Smith said. “I only pray I can do the script the justice that I know these all too talented individuals will. Because if this flick doesn’t pan out, it’s back to register jockeying for me.”

Before he became a filmmaker, Smith worked as a cashier. He attracted much acclaim with his 1994 debut “Clerks”, which he followed up with the 1995 flop “Mallrats”. “Chasing Amy”, released earlier this year, restored his reputation as one of the leading independent filmmakers.

Things are looking up! If Rickman continues his usual trend, we can assume he’ll be playing a villain of some sort in this one. Then again, stranger things have happened in a Smith film. Keep coming back here for all the latest Dogma casting info.

Wanna Hear Something REALLY Scary?

  • Here’s some frightening news we snagged from the View Askew WWWBoard:

Jason Mewes

Well I guess the time has come for everyone …and I mean everyone to get online. Jason Mewes is being sent a modem for his cool new laptop by good ole’ me. I would guess he would be online and on the board in about 2 weeks time (with the help of Kevin). I think he will be going through AOL since it is the easiest for beginners to use. So Kevin, If you’re out there please help him out a little with AOL since I know your a master of the AOL universe!!!! When Jason does appear on the board lets give him a great welcome huh? Thanks.

I’m not sure what’s scarier, Jay with a modem or the thought of Jay walking around with a laptop! But seriously, we’d like to extend our warmest welcomes to him once he hits Cyberspace, and definitely look forward to seeing him on the webboards, visiting our website, and sending us threatening e-mails.

Good job!

View Askew Mailing List Begins…

August 18th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • I’ll be honest with you, I’ve never been a big supporter of these, but if you’re into this sort of stuff, a View Askew mailing list has started. This is basically a way for folks to chat Askewness through e-mail messages, which you receive (normally) bunches at a time. Here’s how to get on the list:
Send an email to majordomo@myinternet.net.

No subject.

In the message body just type:

subscribe askew

from then on, you just send messages to askew@myinternet.net.

If you decide to join the list, let us know how it’s working out. You can e-mail the guy who started this, Skeeve Stevens if you have any questions, I suppose.

“Clerks” To Resurface As Comic Book!

August 18th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Here’s some info on the upcoming Clerks comic, hot off the presses (The story that is, not the actual issue):
Comic Shop News 530, dated 8/20 has this to say in its CSNsider column (and I quote):

Kevin Smith will write a new Clerks comic for Oni Press, Bob Schreck’s new imprint. The series will feature characters from Smith’s New Jersey films (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy), and will expand the continuity developed in those films. Oni will also produce a Jay & Silent Bob miniseries to accompany the monthly Clerks title, and a quarterly anthology set in the same continuity is a possibility…

With Kevin doing the writing you can bet these things will be top-notch in quality, and I’m sure they’ll tie together nicely with the current Askewniverse. Plus, it’ll be cool to walk into the Stash and see Clerks and J&SB comics on the shelves. Perhaps Kev will have an in-store signing when the books are released? Time will tell.
