WE (MIGHT) NEED A NEW HOME…

September 2nd @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Well, as you, our devoted fans, have seen, this page has grown quite a bit over the last couple of months. In fact, it’s growing in size at a fairly alarming rate! Things such as requests for frameless versions, continuing archives, and our desire to include more localized versions of files and spiffy graphics has caused us to consider looking for a new website. Our internet provider HAS the space for us, however it’s gonna cost us monthly to use it and, frankly, we’re cheap bastards and would rather get it free. Along with this would come a new URL, of course, which we’d link from this current one and advertise fairly openly.

Anyway, if you’re interested in helping, please drop us a line. If advertising is something that’s required, I suppose we’d consider it, but we’d rather keep the site true to its current look if possible. We’d need a FAST home that we could have regular telnet and FTP access to in order to keep the files current and update as we please. If you think you can help us, let us know. This will not be an immediate move, but one sometime in the near future if we can arrange it. Thanks for your time.

Sorry For The Confusion…

August 31st @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Alright, it’s 7:30 AM and I’m up. Why? Well, it appears that that www.viewaskew.com may NOT have been down for anyone else except for me yesterday…Turns out my internet provider was having problems. Let me know if you ever see me saying that the View Askew site is down when it really is not. I guess both Red Bank and us managed to survive Judgement Day, after all.

Anyway, I now have 2 giant WWWBoards full of posts to read, lots of e-mail to catch up on (sit tight if you’re waiting on a response), and the usual other dirt-digging that goes along with this site. Sorry for once again slacking on the weekend and disappointing those of you that expect up-to-the-minute news. I’ll do better next weekend, promise! But please, do check back later today when we’ll definitely have a complete update that covers everything (we hope) that we missed. See ya then.

Local Cursor Copies…

August 31st @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We’ve placed local copies of Steve Rettinger’s Dancing Jay & Silent Bob Windows cursors here for your convenience. Steve’s put a nice page up containing pictures of the duo in action as well, which you can access here or through our Links Askew section on your left. You’ll want the 256 color version (the nicest) of the cursors if you run at either 16-bit (High) or 32-bit (True) color, otherwise download the 16 color versions. All the cursors have been re-created from scratch and look outstanding. Look for more great stuff from Steve in the near future.

Dante In The Cards…

August 31st @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • A fellow calling himself The Cheez-Czar tells us that you can find a Dante card in a set of FASA Shadowrun Collectible Cards. Shadowrun is a role-playing game (like Dungeons and Dragons but set in the future with magic and technology) and is a collectible game like Magic: The Gathering. Apparently the Dante card contains the quote, “I’m not even supposed to be here today!”. Interesting. Check it out for yourself if you know where to get the cards, our scooper tells us that the Dante is quite common.

Dogma Database Update…

August 31st @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Thanks to Jay Gunn for letting us know that Dogma’s Internet Movie Database Enty has been updated to include all of the latest casting information, and that the aforementioned “shit demon” played by Ethan Supplee will be (Kev’s words) “a shit version of Clayface”. Sounds good to us! Speical Effects in a View Askew flick, huh? Sounds cool.

Going Through Withdrawal?

August 30th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • I guess all of you have realized that www.viewaskew.com has been down since yesterday. Sorry to say, I have no update as to why this is or when the site will come back. I sent Ming an e-mail asking him if he might want to drop me a line whenever the site is going down for maintenance or even down due to network problems. This way, we can inform you here and possibly give you an estimated uptime. More news later, for now, it’s off to the Harrisburg Chili Cook-Off!

Judgement Day Is Upon Us…

August 29th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

Well, everyone, stick your heads between your legs and kiss your asses goodbye, because it’s Judgment Day! Well, at least as far as Jim Cameron’s concerned. According to the Terminator 2: Judgment Day flick, TODAY is the day that the Skynet computer became self-aware and decided that it didn’t want us humans around anymore. So, you guessed it, it nuked us. We’ll be here updating until we get hit by the blast, though. Apparently, Red Bank has already been hit since www.viewaskew.com has been offline for quite a few hours now. We’ll miss you all. *Sniff*

By the way, if by some miracle John Connor actually does save our butts, we’ll be back with another update tomorrow.

Rutgers Talk Cleared Up…

August 29th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin will be appearing at the Camden Campus of Rutgers University. Kevin does say, however, that you should contact your school activities board and ask for him by name (kinda like those old light beer commercials).

Seriously, your colleges should ALL have budgets in their activities funds for this kinda stuff, and now that I think about it, I regret never suggesting anyone at my school since most of out guest speakers pretty much sucked. Also, judging from what he’s said, Kevin’s more than happy to do this sorta thing if his schedule permits. So if you’re in school now, look into it! Just think, you could be the one to go up and shake Kev’s hand and say, “I’m the reason you’re here.” Not bad, ‘eh?

Help With The Jay & Silent Bob Cursors…

August 29th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • I’ve seen comments and received mails from just a few folks who are having trouble with the zip file or setting up the cursors themselves. Therefore, I’ll try to go into some detail here for those of you who need the help. First of all, you’ll need a zip program to uncompress the file. Here’s the latest version of Winzip. Now, make sure you’re using Windows. Sorry, these files won’t work on anything but a Windows-based PC. It’s been years since I used Win 3.1, so if anyone has instructions for setting these up in there, let me know. These instructions are for Windows 95/NT only:
  • Unzip the file using the program you downloaded.
  • Use Windows Explorer to cut and paste the files from where you unzipped them to into your C:WindowsCursors directory.
  • Under your Control Panel, select Mouse, and Pointers.
  • You’ll see a list of all the different pointers and their corresponding events (busy, normal, etc…). I use the Jay and Silent Bob cursors for the two different busy states (background and busy).

Sorry if this is still too vague, I was never good at explaining PC stuff, really. I always take for granted the things that people know just because I do. If you need further instructions, drop me a line.

Oh, and as for all the problems that some of you running at lower color depths and such have been having…Never fear! Steve’s put Cursors Askew online for all your cursor and graphic needs. There you can find different versions of the cursors that will look good for all configurations, plus a few more nice surprises as well.
