Well, we're en-route back to Pennsylvania from the big Rider Appearance this evening. Yet another fine show from Kevin
and crew (Since he brought JAY along to sit in a bit and cause some general humorous moments, including mooning the audience upon
his entry). Some of the highlights & news:
- The Clerks animated series, which is Kevin's favorite project at the moment (aside from
Dogma, of course), is slated
to debut on ABC this January. He confirmed that Brian and Jeff would indeed be doing the voices of the title characters,
along with MANY special guest voices, including most of Dogma's cast (Affleck wants to be a Canadian character), and a
recurring role (Leonardo Leonardo) hopefully voiced by Alan Rickman. A bit of the third episode's storyline was revealed,
and MAN does this sound HILARIOUS! We won't spill the beans, but, anyone see "Outbreak"?
- Jay yelling "It's ALL BULLSHIT!!!!" from the balcony of the theater after Kevin finished telling a story about his
falling asleep during the filming of a scene in Dogma.
- The Dogma soundtrack is residing with Capitol Records at the moment, with the chance of including a brand new track
from The Beastie Boys, and of course lots more. Howard Shore's score will most definitely be released on another CD, as
well. We hear the score is outstanding.
- Kevin hinted that an idea that he had in his head about a
Mallrats sequel during the filming of the first one would
be turned into a comic book rather than an actual second film. Most of you who have seen Kevin speak know the story, and
how well it'll translate on the comic pages.
- The Green Arrow books may or may not happen, depending on
Jimmy & Joe's availability to draw the thing.
- He's working on a script for the Mage movie sometime in the future.
- The Dogma trailer being shown to a highly appreciative audience, who
demanded a "REWIND!!!!" when cheering drowned out some of the closing lines of the 2+ minute piece.
A nice reception was held afterwards, where Kevin sat, signed, and chatted away until everyone was left satisfied. We
chilled on a couch until business was done, then had a few minutes to talk with Kevin about the past couple day's events

Hey!
I was at the Rider show ( I was the kid who asked the Green Arrow question!)
and I've got to say my fave moment of the whole night was Kev telling the
story about Suzanne, the monkey. FUNNY shit! There was so much more though
too. I have about 12 pics from the night all together. I'll try to get them scanned as soon as
possible and send them your way. - Dan

Well I gotta say attending that lecture was an interesting, insightful, hard,
and downright hysterical lifetime experience. I'll definitely check out his
show.
Okay. Here's my taudry little tale.
I left to hit the rough a ridged NJ Turnpike to get to Rider from Jersey
City. Bruce Springstein really doesn't know what the hell he's talking about
when he sings about the turnpike. I gotta say.
Anyway I got there at 7:00 and thought, "Christ. I'm late. It started. They
took my ticket." I got in, shuffled, having reserved my ticket and found out
Smith was stuck in traffic. What luck?! I ran to the front row on the left
column of the three seated column auditorium only to be shuffled off that
side to the "center" by the guardians of the college so they could calculate
how many people to get in there. They gave away premiums like videos based on
the number on your ticket.
Finally, at around 7:35 Smith came out and said he was lossed too. I had the
same troubles.
He said he didn't know the area so he brought a friend.
"Friend?" he said. Everyone knew it was going to be Jason Mewes, someone even
chanting his name when Mewes came out, it was still a shocker. His pants were
down around his ankles, mooning the audience for a second. He did some funny
antics like lighting up a smoke, running off to get pizza, and finally
leaving.
Kevin was very funny even talking about the whole Dogma-Disney-Mirmax thing
which he later brought to the possibility it was Disney being mad at the
MOOBY cartoon character in his film that resembles "Mickey Mouse".
Kevin took a shot at Joey Lauren Adams citing that their relationship was
torn because of press and the Chasing Amy film. Then he let out, "And that
fucking voice. God, it could crack glass." That got a huge pop from the
audience.
He had us laughing in the aisles for the most part. When I got passed the mic
I didn't realize he was about to go off on a Superman story about his
sitatuon when I blurted out whether or not there'd be a Clerks sequel which
he laughed off.
"Can we stick to one f***ing subject at a time." He laughed and explained he
was toying around with the idea.
Later when I asked him about Mews sleeping during Dogma takes he went off on
a hysterical story about Mewes sleeping and then being afraid of screwing up
infront of Rickman who was English and by definition was ten times a better
actor then him. As soon as Smith finished Mewes chanted up, finding his way
to the projection booth.
"It's all bullsh**!!''
He then showed a kickass Dogma trailor that had the usual. Audience laughed
at Rock and Mewes with a slomo rambo gun that got the biggest laugh of the
night almost.
When Smith was ready for a last few questions he was asked to do some kind've
dance. Smith responded "You got a girlfriend? Yeah. Can she suck my dick?"
Awesome man, awesome night, definitely be back for a second round. - David

Well, after missing the Virginia tech appearance my friends and I saw Kevin
was going to be at rider. So we checked out the rider web page and it said
the appearance was free and open to the public, so silly us we all packed
into a car and drove the 150 miles up from Baltimore to rider only to find
out that you needed tickets and they were all sold out. Needless to say my
friends and I were crushed, I mean we thought it was weird that rider did not
say a damn thing about tickets on the page all they said was "free and open
to the public"but we weren't alone there was a pretty nice size crowd behind
us and we were all hoping to get in so we waited. finally a few people got in
and then a few others, my friend Donnie and I included the other four in my
party would have to wait a few more mins to get in.(they got to see Donnie
and I run into the theater without even looking back) The other four members
of our little balto: crew got in a few mins later and we were all very happy,
not as happy as when Kevin and then Jay took the stage though.
Seeing jay come out with his ass hanging out was funny as hell I didn't
really expect everything to be as laid back and crazy as it was (I just
hoped) Some of the highlights of my night were when smith was told about a
reception and asked who and what was going to be there and Jay said hookers
the whole thing about the clerks animated series and the possible sequel to
mallrats in a comic the mewezi and of course the dogma trailer It was all
great. My friends and I all had one of the best times I can remember ands we
will be keeping an eye out for any future appearances.

Hey guys! I was so happy to have the opportunity to see and meet Kevin
Smith at Rider. He was so funny and he just told it like it was! That's
refreshing! I loved hearing his little stories from the different
movies. I can never watch them the same way again! Of course it was
great to see Mewes there too! His antics are always hilarious. I was
suprised about how nice and friendly they both were about pictures and
autographs. You would think that after awhile they would get tired of it
and start to leave. But they were both more than accomadating. I felt
bad for Mewes because the poor guy just wanted to go outside to have a
cigarette and half of the audience followed him and hounded him for
autographs. He didn't seem to mind though, so I guess it was ok. I got
my picture with Jay and Kevin. It was one of the most amazing nights of
my life and I'll never, ever forget it! - Jessica

Worth every cent. Wait, It was free! Fantastic night. If you
haven't seen Kevin speak, you're missing out on something
fattyboombatty. Think of the evening as a 3 hour Q&A session
with "on the Dogma set " stories that could be a movie on their
own. Highlights included stories on:
Jay and automatic weapons. Jay made machine gun noises when
firing the guns for Dogma because the clip lasts less than 2
seconds on an uzi.
Jay's sleeping habits (not narcolepsy, he just doesn't sleep at
night and instead dozes off many times during the day. Including
on set when he's off camera.)
Jay and Suzanne (really a male monkey that freaked out Jay and
Kevin a bit)
Jay "delivering the sausage" to Ben and Kevin. Jay showed up at
their door one time in a red waiter's vest and nothing more,
stating "How do you like you sausage?"
Jay "Rain Man style" memorizing the script to Dogma for fear of
"Rickman"
Why Shannon Dougherty sucks
Walt Flannigan's dog being taught to "Kill the Baby" on command
(for training purposes, "the baby" was a stuffed animal). Walt
wasn't as amused with the dog's new skill when his wife became
pregnant!
Kevin on why it's cool becoming a member of the Motion Picture
Academy because you get a vhs copy of every flick before they are
released onto video. Hence he became the man to know in Red Bank
for a video "fix".
But the Dogma "pre release work in progress trailer" was KICK ASS
and all that I imagined! Won't say another word about that, but
imagine taking the delivery of the SW Episode 1 trailer, the
violence and action of Pulp Fiction Trailer, and the style and
characters of Kevin Smith and placing all these elements in the
BrundleFly machine and you have an idea what the visuals are like
for the trailer. I can't wait to see this flick!
This is gonna be a great year with Clerks and Mallrats Special
Edition slated for summer DVD release, Clerks going back out into
"select" theaters to give true fans a chance to see the completed
Dogma trailer, and the big finale of Dogma (hopefully still on
schedule after the Disney sell off).
Kevin and Jay signed my Laser Discs of "The Jersey Trilogy" with
Kevin adding the word "Bitch" and an arrow pointing to you know
who on the cover of Mallrats. Jay signed "Phat buds."

We waited out in line for tickets to the show. We got there a half an hour
early to get second row seats. God only knows how many times we watched the
movies, we even had the lines memorized. It was great so far, but there we
were, huge Kevin Smith fans with no passes to the reception where Jay and
Silent Bob would be signing autographs. What should we do? We decided to
try and sneak in after most of the crowd had left. On the way up the stairs
to the second floor of the Student Center there was Jay walking down the
steps, cigarette in hand, mob of "groupies" surrounding him. Here was our
chance. I asked if he could sign something for me and he said he would when
he came back up. But I guess he saw the look of anticipation in my eyes and
he caved. "Sure, I'll do it now," he said. As he was signing he squinted,
"I got smoke in my eyes." I felt bad, but knew he'd be okay. He quickly
shifted his head to keep the smoke out and all was well. Just then, Regina,
God love her, stumbled down the stairs and grabbed a quick shot of him. I
don't think Jay was ready for the flash. Here we are torturing the poor guy
just for an autograph. So, Jay please forgive us, we didn't mean it. -
