- This just in! Our pal Will Wilkins comes through again with another great MP3 audio capture of a recent surprise Smith appearance - Kevin called into the Opie & Anthony show to chat with the guys earlier this week. Due to a slow connection at work today, we’ve yet to listen to the audio, but will be soon - So we can’t for sure say what’s discussed and newsworthy, but we’ll be back with a full report of any breaking news from inside this audio clip. ‘Til then, listen for yourself and enjoy.
- Several View Askew references appear in Entertainment Weekly’s gallery of “Perfect Casting: 23 Stars as Themselves”. Surf through the gallery to find Stan Lee’s turn in “Mallrats” and of course, the unforgettable appearance of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”. The entire gallery’s great, and well worth your time to click through.

- Yes, the suspense is certainly killing us. Earlier this month, Kevin casually dropped tomorrow’s date, Monday, April 28th, as his planned debut of the first, internet exclusive trailer for his new flick, “Zack & Miri Make A Porno”. Since then, there’s been very little mention or a countdown to this date. However, we DO know that the trailer was cut together (at least in rough form) some time ago, so we’re guessing this is all just a matter of timing, moreso than any delay in getting it out there. Chances are, the trailer’s ready to roll, and will appear online with a simple few clicks.
We haven’t heard any further details at this hour late on Sunday night, so, like the rest of you, we’re sitting back and waiting. We’re hopeful to have a bunch of mirrors up tomorrow, where possible, though can assume that the trailer will debut exclusive at the official site, Quick Stop Entertainment, and/or View Askew. Despite being on different domains, we actually share a server with those sites, so expect some slow traffic for a while regardless of where you go (this one’s going to likely be our biggest bandwidth-buster yet). Stay tuned, as soon as we get word of the trailer’s arrival, we’ll let ya know the best way to get it. Here’s hoping we can all join you in seeing the first live footage from the next View Askew film right here on the web tomorrow.

- Though there are no listings for the film on their official movies page , some readers caught “Jersey Girl” late on TBS this week. If anyone watches the new edit, and notices any fun or interesting omissions or changes, we’d love to hear about it. If we hear of a definite upcoming airing, we’ll let you know.
- Brian Lynch’s “Everybody’s Dead”, which at one point was set as a possible follow-up to the View Askew rarity “Big Helium Dog”, has come to life in comic book form. Issue #2 has now arrived in stores and is celebrating very good reviews. If you’re a fan of comics, zombies, and of course, many laughs, this is a book worth looking into. Details at the Myspace page. Don’t see it? Ask your local comic shop where it’s at!
- Another good reason to visit the Secret Stash inside Laser Blazer in Los Angeles! On May 7th, they’re hosting a live signing with comic legend Jim Krueger. Stop in, get your book signed, and then shop all the fantasic deals on DVDs and View Askew swag. Oh, and of course, take a look at the coolest View Askew prop museum on the west coast!
- With a new “Harold & Kumar” flick in theaters, stoner flicks come up on the web this week, with Jay & Silent Bob appearing on Bullz-Eye’s list of 13 Cinematic Stoners in addition to the guys who went to White Castle.

- Ming checked in this week with a brief post indicating that, unfortunately, Kevin’s upcoming May 2nd Q&A at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Northern New Jersey has been postponed:
Hello Northern New Jersey-ers and Non-Northern New Jersey-ers.
I’ve just received word today that this Q&A has been postponed with a makeup date TBA. When I hear the exact date I will let everyone know.
I also have no idea what the ticket exchange or refund policy is as of yet. Again when I find out I’ll let you know.
Thanks.
We’ll of course keep you posted if we hear any further details, or learn of refund info or the make-up date. Current rumor has it that the new date will be sometime in November, but that is just speculation. Many folks have either stopped by the Bergen PAC or called in and have their refunds processing. Or, you can hold onto your seats and have them waiting for you when the new date is announced.

- While we visited the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Bluntcave set and had a blast, we couldn’t help but wishing we’d got to hang out for the days shooting the jewel heist by Chrissy, Sissy, Missy, and Justice. Entertainment Weekly seems to share our thoughts this week, including the lovely ladies in a new photo gallery titled Kiss Me Deadly: 25 Best Big-Screen Bad Girls:
CHRISSY, SISSY, MISSY, AND JUSTICE
Ali Larter, Eliza Dushku, Jennifer Schwalbach, Shannon Elizabeth
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
Hot jewel thieves pretending to be animal rights activists? Who may or may not be lesbians? Yes, please.
- TBS Superstation reports that “Jersey Girl” will soon come to their network. This will be the basic cable premiere of the flick, in what we assume will be a new, edited for TV format. No showtimes or dates yet, but we’ll let ya know when we hear more.
- Clerks II rightfully hits Cinematical’s list of “Deliberately Offensive (But Fun) Comedies”, with the following write-up:
3. Clerks 2
How could I not include a film that caused a well-known critic to storm out in mid-screening because of possible interspecies erotica? A film that includes a character trying to “take back” a certain racial slur? During a plane ride last week, I decided to forego the in-flight movie selection (Juno) in favor of this movie … for some inexplicable reason the Kevin Smith DVD was in my laptop bag. When the flight attendant interrupted me and I paused the movie, it froze on a screenshot of Randal with that slur visible on the back of his Mooby’s shirt. I realized that the image would be terrific to post as the photo at the top of this list, but unfortunately it proves my point a little too well.

- And finally today, perhaps another comic creator sneaking a “Clerks” reference in there — In the latest issue of “She-Hulk” (#28), She Hulk asks her Skrull friend Jaz how many partners she’s been with, her response, 5 simultaneously, but 37 in all. Huh. Have a weekend, folks.

- We hope you’ve been keeping up with Kevin’s blogs during the NHL playoffs this year, exclusively over at NHL.com. While his beloved Devils were taken down by the Rangers, Kev took it in stride with the latest entry, giving his “concession speech” if you will, though we hope it’s not the last writing we see at the site. Here’s some snips:
What can I say? The better team won.
But it was close in those last two games. Indeed, in Game Five, the Devils came back from a 4-1 deficit to almost tie it up in the third. But when all’s said and done, there can only be one winner, and this year (well, this round, really), it’s the Rangers. Congrats to the Blueshirts; you’ve got a helluva goalie and some great young guns.
Devils’ Legionnaires, I implore you to take those guns out of your mouths and let these positives from the 07-08 season warm your heart ‘til the fall.
…
We won’t be holding a Cup aloft this year, but that’s okay; let someone else have a turn. Four Cups in thirteen years might’ve been a little too greedy.
In the interest of saving Rangers’ fans some time so they can psychologically prepare for either the Pens or the Flyers, I will provide the standard negative response to any reminder of the Devils’ Cups collection.
While we can’t be certain if Kevin will continue on with his team out, might we suggest taking on the surging Philadelphia Flyers, who just pulled a HUGE overtime win in Washington DC last night to move onto the next round? GO FLYERS!

- DirecTV’s channel 238, called “Reelzchannel”, will air a special titled “The Films of Kevin Smith” on Monday, April 28th at 2:00 PM EST. Since we haven’t heard of any new interviews being conducted for this special, we’re going to assume it’s a rundown of his filmography, maybe with some stockinterview footage tossed in. If we learn more particulars before it airs, we’ll let ya know.
- The IMDB ran a good “Clerks” trivia question this week:
Pretty cool, no? We’re wondering if there will ever be another successful flick made as cheaply. While “Red State” will certainly easily exceed the “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy” indie budgets, we’re curious to see what happens with that project, especially if Kev and Scott decide to independently fund it.
- A final bit of trivia/interesting news for the day - One of our readers tells us today that Guardian Angels Regional School in Paulsboro, NJ will hold a talent show tomorrow night where her daughter will participate. Why is this news? Well, ya see, this is the very same stage/auditorium that hosted the famous talent show from the end of “Jersey Girl” (including the great “Sweeney Todd” number). We’re told that “Kevin Smith Way”, the street dedicated to the man during filming there, is still taking on traffic. See ya next time!

- Kev & Scott return right on schedule this week, presenting another hour of entertainment for the ears in the form of their famous, free podcast, “SModcast”. A very special member of the View Askew family stops into the show today, but you’re gonna have click and listen to find out just who that is! Let’s take a look at the rundown posted over at QSE today:
SModcast 47: Destroy All Monsters -
In which our heroes are visited by a special guest, discuss disturbing defecation, inadvertently brag about the size of a shower, puzzle over plumbing, and muse (or Mewes) about a movie that might’ve been.
Episode 47 is available for immediate MP3 download exclusively over at Quick Stop Entertainment — Go grab your copy right now and make your Monday brighter. Thanks as always to the guys for taking time out of their schedules to give us some laughs on these dreary, back to work Mondays. Only a few weeks until the show turns 50! Wonder if the guys have any special plans for the big milestone…

- The dudes from Quick Stop Entertainment held a live panel discussion at the NY Comicon over the weekend, and our pal Robb was in attendance. Here’s a short report on what went down that may be of interest:
The panel started with a folksong version of “Baby Got Back”.
Announced the “Masters of SONG FU” music contest. Head to head contest. First challenge: 30-60 second sitcom theme song of your life. Entries open May 1 and close May 15th.
Short trailer for Bob and Doug McKenzies new animated show — Will air January 2009.
Showed the intro to the “Zack & Miri Make A Porno” webisodes titled ‘Money Shots’. No date other than “some point in the future” given for their web premiere.
- More View Askew love from Empire Magazine in their June 2008 issue. In a feature on the Greatest Movie Studios, Miramax is in the spotlight this month, with Kevin featured throughout the article as well as Askewniverse regulars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. “Clerks” is also charts at No. 7 in their Studio Top 10. Complete scan evidence is above.
- Finally today, anyone catch “Navy Seals” on AMC this weekend? American Movie CLASSICS!?!? Gotta love it. See ya next time…
