If you’re here in the States, you’ve got access to Hulu, and thus, to Kevin’s Friday night appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Kevin does a blazing 5 minutes — Watch him chat up on his new wardrobe, talk twitter, ass tattoos, and, of course…pimp the new book. He worked in what he could in what looks like a rushed segement — Hopefully, next time he can do a little more time on the couch.
In a related story, Contact Music picks up the tattoo story from Fallon as well.
While the news of a title change is a bit dated now, “Star Pulse” posts a report on the likely title change for “A Couple of Dicks”.
Looks like the service quality of Verizon’s new mspot mobile movie streaming service isn’t well-received, but they have good taste in flicks anyway.
Mewes news: The official website for his new film “Breath Of Hate” has gone live. Lots of Mewes there, including photos, production stills, and videos. You can catch video of him at the end of Day 3’s video blog , a 2-minute intro for the Day 4 blog, and in this clip from Day 7, his final one on the set.

“Hit Somebody” has an IMDB page now. With a projected 2011 release date. Yeah, oh yeah. We DIG this project. Can you feel it?
Every once in a while that ‘ol Supes comes back here in the News Askew, and today is one of those days. Rope of Silicon comes up with what looks to be a pretty scary looking test shot of what Nic Cage would have looked like as Superman would Burton’s movie have gone ahead based on Kevin’s original script. Then again, many say Burton was totally scrapping the script when he came on board, but can you imagine if Kevin’s words would have been spoken by Cage in a suit like that? Wow. RoS also includes the obligatory classic clip of Kevin telling that classic Superman story, which just never gets old. D-Listed and Buzzfeed picked this up as well.
Total Film’s got their “7 Seductive Movie Saleswomen”, and one of them happens to be Becky from Clerks 2 (and rightly so!):
Becky (Rosario Dawson), Clerks II (2006)
When Dante and Randal’s shop burns down, they find employment at Mooby’s, a fast-food joint.
Finding Rosario Dawson’s Becky as their new manager is a massive turn up for the books.
Becky is hardy and smart, and doesn’t have time for romance. She’s seemingly unattainable, authoritative and very, very sexy.
What she could sell: With one flutter of her eyelashes, she could convince Heather Mills to gorge on a Cowtipper.
Collider recently interviewed Adam Brody regarding his role in this weekend’s “Jennifer’s Body” (you know, the one starring Megan Fox, that you’ve heard a lot about over the past month or so)…Anyway, at the end of the video Brody also mentions “A Couple of Dicks”, so you may wanna take a look.

89X Radio’s got the full audio of Kevin’s recent call-in to the show in support of the Michigan gig. Scroll down to see it. Coincidentally, they’ve also got the Megan Fox / Amanda Seyfried kiss video at the top of the same page, so there’s a nice little bonus, too.
We really love this “Askewopoly” game created by longtime fan Douglas Fir . The only one of its kind, this sucker is custom-designed in every way. We especially dig the Leonardo Leonardo cash and all the custom Chance and Community Chest cards. Bravo to Douglas Fir and anyone else involved. We’d buy it.
Kevin was mentioned in the latest Digg Dialog interview with Matt Damon. The interviewer asks:
“One of my favorite movies that you were in is Kevin Smith’s Dogma. After you read the script for that the first time, were you concerned about the response it might get? And also, how was working with Kevin Smith as compared to directors like Soderbergh or Spielberg?”
Watch the entire interview to see Damon’s answer to the question here at Digg — Jump in to around the eleven minute mark if you want to get right to it. Thanks for stopping by today — We’ll see ya next time. Those of you heading to Kev’s shows over the next few days, enjoy it!

Collider takes this week’s “Red State” and “Hit Somebody” stories and summarizes them up. Nothing new here, just a bit of a rehash of our earlier week’s news.
One of the bloggers over at “We Are Movie Geeks” shares a tale of his early days with the View Askew WWWBoard back at the time of “Clerks” via a public thank-you letter.
The Mewes appearances continue — Catch Jason at the Rock and Shock Horror Movie/Music Festival in Worcester, Massachusetts this October 16th-18th. Mewes will certainly be there to meet his fans and sign stuff, though we have no confirmation of any Q&As at this point.
More Mewes? You got it. Here’s a few shots of the dude with porn star Joanna Angel on the set of his new flick “Breath of Hate”.

Sure, we know you are planning to buy a copy, but you wanna WIN one, too? ScreenCrave is offering up 3 copies of “Shootin’ the Sh*t” simply by signing up for their RSS Feed/Twitter and sending them a Kevin-related comment or tweet. Winners will be randomly drawn on September 16th. Good luck!
SciFi Wire wonders if Kevin will give Batman a new sidekick over the course of “Widening Gyre”. A snippet:
Smith completed the first six issues and will begin writing another batch of six. “We’re breaking it up into a volume 1, volume 2 kind of thing,” Smith continued. “So the first six issues happen, then there’s a break, and then the next six issues happen, but I don’t know. DC’ll probably ultimately wind up going, ‘Why don’t we just make it two separate miniseries? 1-6 is one thing, and call the next one something else.’ So we may do that. I don’t know, but I know we’re going to stop at six for the time being and take a little break. Then whether or not the next issue is 7 or a new number 1 for a volume 2 miniseries remains to be seen.”
Mallrats’ Shannen Doherty has joined the guest list for Orlando’s Spooky Empire Con which takes place from October 9-11. Tickets are now available at the official site. No definite schedule for appearances has yet been announced, so watch the official site for signing times if you’ve like to meet Shannen or any of the show’s other guests.
Catch a screening of Malcolm Ingram’s acclaimed doc “Small Town, Gay Bar” in Brooklyn, NY next Tuesday, September 15th at 8:00 PM. Visit the event’s Facebook page for full details. All proceeds will benefit the Brooklyn Community Pride Center. Suggested donation is $10.
Jay Mewes recently hosted a concert event in Edmonton, called Sonic Boom. The Sun’s got a nice writeup on the event which features a nice Mewes mention:
Keeping the audience entertained between sets was Jason Mewes — famous for playing Jay, a pot dealer in the Jay and Silent Bob flicks.
“It’s a lot of fun. It’s been great,” said Mewes, between signing autographs for a huge lineup of fans. “(There are) a lot of cool bands (and) a lot of cool people here.”
Between acts, Mewes dutifully told the crowd to “drink water, be safe, recycle and Jesus loves you.”
Buddy Christ pops up in a funny little posting on popular website “Passive Aggessive Notes”.
Watch for “Chasing Amy”’s Dwight Ewell in a small recurring role on the new “90210″ on the CW. Ewell appeared late in the season as a teacher, and showed up again in Tuesday’s premiere.

MTV Movies, in a converation with Adam Brody, suggests that the title of “A Couple of Dicks” may indeed be changed.
Consequence of Sound has a nice piece about the awesomeness of the “Clerks” motion picture soundtrack, a disc whose tunes and dialogue still plays fantastic today on the iPod, by the way. Though, when it came out, who the heck knew what an iPod or even an MP3 was, right? We really dig this story, probably the best we’ve seen written about the soundtrack, and rightfully so, we might add. Here’s a sample:
The Clerks OST was definitive in that it literally sums up everything about ’90s young adult derision and its impact on society, complementing attitude with amplitude and allowing room for both witty quotations and suitable background audio. There are obvious moments where a song makes the scene, such as the quintessential opening credits featuring “Clerks” by New Jersey alt rock outfit Love Among Freaks. The band was local to Smith and he approached them to do music for his film; the movie unwittingly became a vehicle for Love Among Freaks as they also performed the soundtrack inclusion “Berserker” and reappeared on the soundtrack to Chasing Amy, but unfortunately the group only released one full studio album before dissipating into nostalgic bliss.
Other pivotal moments that are boosted by their musical companions include: the introduction of Jay & Silent Bob receiving the Girls Against Boys treatment with “Kill The Sex Player” — a stoner rock tune (how appropriate) with plenty of fuzz and bass along for the ride; Jay attempting a white boy break dance routine to the sound of Stabbing Westward’s “Violent Mood Swings [Thread Mix]“; the Randal and Dante discussion of contractors killed on an exploding Death Star (one of two primary Star Wars conversations) is enhanced by Bash & Pop’s “Making Me Sick”; the entrance of Randal Graves is accented by Alice In Chains’ bluesy “Got Me Wrong” before he exits at the end credits to Soul Asylum’s “Can’t Even Tell”.
Just to clarify, here are the official UK and US release dates for Kevin’s two upcoming books: “Shooting the Shit” hits US shelves on September 22nd, and UK shelves on October 2nd. The new Special Edition of best-seller “My Boring-Ass Life” arrives in the US on September 29th, and in the UK, on October 2nd, same day as the new book. As always, signed copies from Mr. Smith will be shipping from The Stash immediately, so get your orders in there, or come buy your books in person at upcoming events, inluding the live Jersey SModcast. On a releated note, check out Paste Magazine for a short blub on “Shootin’” as well.
Mewes continues to conduct press for his own Q&A events happening lately in and around Canada. This article from Ground Control. In this new interview, he talks about the status of “K-11″, producing, directing, acting outside the Askewniverse, and moer. But here’s the most amusing quote, when he discusses his own Q&A strategy:
“It’ll be fun; it’s sort of like Kevin’s ‘Night With’ that he’s doing and they filmed one of for HBO, but Kevin can go for five or six hours or longer because he’s been doing them for years. I’m building up to that [laughing]; I can go for about three hours and while his stories are about fifteen or twenty minutes long, mine are about three to six minutes – but I’ll pull my balls out and he won’t.”
Has Mewes thrown down the gauntlet? Catch him live…if you dare. For more Jay press, check out a similar blurb at Pulse Niagara.
One of our fave movie news sites out there, Cinematical, runs a piece titled “Filmmakers Who Love to Talk About Movies”, featuring, well…Just that. There’s video evidence to back up their claims, as well. The entire article is highly recommended, where they call Kevin “The Storyteller”:
The Storyteller – Kevin Smith
You may not like the films of Kevin Smith, but after watching this clip you can’t tell me that this guy doesn’t know how to tell an entertaining story. Listening to Smith talk about movies is like having a conversation with one of your friends, and there are very few people who can connect with their audience like that. Granted, his critiques aren’t always the most ‘highbrow’, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t accurate — and more importantly, pretty damn funny.

Will Kevin appear at Prince Charles Cinema in London during his fall tour? Their website seems to think so though keep in mind nothing is official yet. Our thoughts are that the deal’s not quite in place, but anyway, here’s what they’re saying if you want to make plans for live SModcast UK:
Kevin and Scott Mosier will be recording a live podcast at The Prince Charles Cinema!
07/10/09 at 18:00 Kevin Smith & Scott Mosier
Tickets (which are going to sell out fast) will be available at
Please keep in mind this has not yet been officially announced by View Askew — But hopefully we’ll be able to confirm soon.
Mania reports that yet another character from Kevin’s revival of Green Arrow is making their way to “Smallville” next season. You may recall no one was really talking much about Green Arrow until Kev brought him back in comics back in 2001. Now, he’s a regular on “Smallville”, soon to be joined by sidekick Mia Dearden:
Speedy Coming to SMALLVILLE
The Green Arrow has become a staple player in the ranks of characters featured in ‘Smallville’. He’s been unsuccessful in one endeavor on the show though: recruiting Clark as his full-time partner in crime-fighting. Well. KryptonSite suggests there may be a remedy for that, as season 9 of the show will introduce Arrow’s original sidekick Speedy.
Well, not the original, exactly. Mia Dearden is set to appear in an upcoming episode. She was introduced in Kevin Smith’s revival of Green Arrow back in 2001 and went on to take up the role of sidekick archer.
Check out KryptonSite’s description of episode 7 for more on the ‘Smallville’ version of Dearden.
PostModernBarney writes up what they call “uncomfortable plot summaries” that basically amount to taking a movie’s logline and skewing it in an un-PC sorta way. Here’s the Askewish ones:
CHASING AMY: Homosexuality proved to be passing fancy and sign of sexual deviance.
CLERKS: Aimless loser remains in dead-end job, abusive “friendship.”
GOOD WILL HUNTING: Underemployed genius squanders prestigious job opportunity to chase trim.

Right on schedule, Den of Geek has caught up with “Clerks II” this week, as part of their ongoing Kevin Smith retrospective. Once again, they’ve got a nice review followed by some commentary afterwards, which we’ve got a sampling of here:
“…O’Halloran and Anderson pick up the characters of Dante and Randal so easily it is like they are putting back on their favourite old shirts, making the audience feel as if two old friends have just popped in to let you know what they have been up to recently. The flow of their dialogue is seamless and totally in line with the previous film, something which really could have unravelled the entire movie if it had not been done right.
As always, Jay and Silent Bob add their own personal brand of comic relief throughout the movie and special mention goes out to the two new main additions to this Askewniverse, Rosario Dawson’s Becky and Trevor Fehrman’s Elias, who both slot into this world so brilliantly it is hard to believe this is the first we have seen of them.
…
Clerks II is a sequel that really works and should be made as essential viewing for any Hollywood writer/producer/director who is even thinking of putting a number 2 next to a movie.”
The retrospective will conclude next week with “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”. We’ll then run a post with links to the entire series in case you might have missed any.
Lots more Mewes in the news today – First up, the Bloor Street Cinema in Toronto has announced “An Intimate Evening with Jason Mewes”, which will take place on September 3rd. A new Mewes film is screening as part of the show, though since he’s got quite a few roles in the can right now, we can’t confirm which one. You can get tix online for the bargain price of $12.50 with no service charge. And also…
Jason Mewes: Stand up comedian? We received this news late so you’ll likely miss this show, but is this a sign of things to come? Mewes is apparently trying out a set of stand up material TONIGHT Chatham, Ontario (spending a lot of time in Canada these days, looks like, probably due to filming up there):
CHATHAM — Movie funnyman Jason Mewes is returning here this weekend. The New Jersey-based actor, best known as Jay — as in Jay and Silent Bob — in Clerks and other Kevin Smith films, will perform a stand-up set at the Encore Bar & Nightspot tomorrow night. He filmed a horror film, Silent But Deadly, in Chatham-Kent last year, though he says the film has been “put on hold.” Chatham-Kent, though, is an “interesting place,” he recalled.
Encore Bar is charging $12 at the door for the show tonight. If anyone happened to make it, drop us a line and let us know how the guy fared up there. It’s possible this is just a Q&A that they got mixed up. We’ve heard that some bar-hosted appearances can get a little dicey as far as acoustics and logistics, so tread carefully.

Let’s kick off the ‘Bites today in a strong way — Yep, NEW SMODCAST! With episode #92, the guys are sure crankin’ them out now as we get closer to landmark episode #100:
SModcast 92: Flame On! -
In which our heroes crack Quebec’s greatest unsolved mystery.
Exclusively over at Quick Stop Entertainment — Tell your friends.
Why We’re Excited: It’s a whole new direction for the former View-Askewniverse helmer- his second time (after TV pilot Reaper) working from someone else’s script and a very different genre.
But with Bruce Willis and 30 Rock’s Tracy Morgan as cops on a wild mission, all the ingredients are in place for some real laughs.
Is It Ready Yet? It wrapped last week and one of Kevin Smith’s recent tweets reported that he was home in LA and continuing the editing process he started on set. It’ll be a few months yet.
These guys are nothing short of best friends both on and off the screen, and it’s more than obvious they’ve spent years of their lives passed out drunk on each others’ floors and/or couches. Anytime the two of them get together for a movie, it’s a cult-classic, and not just because of Smith’s earthy-hilarious writing ability, either. They play off one another so well that they’re often just thought of and described as a single unit, and usually by their most memorable character names Jay and Silent Bob, hetero life-partners.
We’re told that Mewes has just wrapped production on “Breath of Hate”, a new horror film in which he’s starring as “Ned”, a “gamer nerd and sweet man who falls in love with a prostitute”. While there’s not yet an official website yet, you can check out the production company’s site or search up their fan group on Facebook.
