J&SBSB: The Short Version!

March 16th @ 5:51 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by John Whiteaker, Kevin Dilmore, Chuck Gould

  • According to his latest blog, Kevin loves this “short effin version” of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, which takes the film and cuts it down, basically, to the mother of all words (mostly uttered by Jay). Ironically, our favorite portions of this edit are the little extra bits (aside from that big F) that the editor sneaks in. Kevin says:
For all those people who ever said “Your flicks are nothing but a slew of vulgarities.”

Apparently, they were right.

Mooby Meal Box: A Look Inside!

November 27th @ 6:09 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by JustinCredible

  • One vigilant scooper from the North travelled down to a New York Best Buy last night and happened upon one of those limited edition Mooby Meal boxes, out EARLY! So thanks to him, we have some new high res shots of the contents of this beauty. We’ll be at our local Best Buy to pick these suckers up tomorrow, you can bet on that.

Of Canadian interest: Not as impressive as the Best Buy USA exclusive, Canadians get a free original ‘98 Clerks Comic book with the purchase of Clerks II on DVD. None of the other stores seem to have any deals of any sort.

  • Joblo.com is running a feature on the ten funniest cameos ever — Jay and Silent Bob in Scream 3 and “Everybody” in JSBSB take 4th and 3rd place respectively.
4. Jay and Silent Bob in SCREAM 3 (2000)

As Craven’s final chapter slowly but surely slips into the giant pile of 90s horror mediocrity, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes show up for one last poke at pop culture. “Holy shit, Silent Bob, it’s that TV news-chick Connie f*cking Chung! Hey Connie, how’s Maury?”

3. Everybody in JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK

I know I need to get off Smith’s nut-sack but the use of cameos in this film are amazing. Will Ferrell, Jud Nelson, Carrie Fisher, Seann William Scott, John Stewart, Tracy Morgan, Chris Rock, Wes Craven, Shannon Doherty, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, Joey Lauren Adams, Matt Damon, and Mark Hamill just to name a few. Both Ben Affleck and Jason Lee cameo twice as two different characters. They’re all highlighted by the GOOD WILL HUNTING 2 scene and of course, George Carlin teaching them how to hitchhike (pictured above).

They also include a couple of great pics including Jay and Bob from Degrassi and George Carlin following the rules of the Book. Check it all out.

  • And speaking of Degrassi, Kevin gets a mention in the Wall Street Journal in a Degrassi article touting the program’s appeal to adults as well as teens:
…Some episodes are so controversial that the N has chosen not to air them in the U.S. Last season, the network pulled an episode in which a pregnant 15-year-old girl unapologetically gets an abortion. The network also edited out graphic scenes from an episode about a girl who intentionally cuts herself with the point of a protractor.

One adult fan of “Degrassi” is Kevin Smith, creator of the movie “Clerks,” who will guest star, at his own request, in the coming season. Mr. Smith will play a director who picks Degrassi High as the setting for his new movie, titled “Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh?” (Summer season begins Friday, 8 p.m. EDT.)

  • Reality TV junkies might have noticed the great John Pierson giving the new Real World cast their job assignments in this week’s episode (airing all the time, every day). The crew is set up in Austin this year and features a blonde nudeness-prone nymphomaniac. Okay, guys, NOW you wanna watch? We do assume it was the first and only appearance for Pierson in the season.
  • You can find more info on obtaining the DVD for “Double Dare”, the stuntwoman documentary that we mentioned has some behind the scenes J&SBSB stuff, HERE. You might be interested to know that the stuntwoman in those scenes also doubled Uma Thurman in “Kill Bill”.
  • Today’s “Word of the Day” on iwon.com seems to have been written by a fan:
TACITURN

Definition: silent, not talkative

Example: The clerk’s TACITURN nature earned him the nickname “Silent Bob.”

  • Find another View Askew screenshot in Invisibles Quiz #237 from Filmwise. We’re guessing the 37 made it a must.

Huge, HUGE thanks to Kevin and Action Figure for their always incredible work in getting photos to the public. Keep in mind, these are of course the prototypes, but we’ll let you know as we hear more about release schedules for all this great stuff. The Stash will be taking preorders as always, and these should be ready in time to show up under your Christmas tree. Keep it here.

Jay & Silent Bob & Drawing Flies Hit DVD Today!

February 26th @ 4:02 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Well the day is finally here, you can now own your very own copies of “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” AND the long-awaited and rarely seen “Drawing Flies” on DVD! Both are also out in VHS versions at your local video store. We of course urge you to check out both of these flicks, and, if you’re a DVD owner, BUY ‘EM! Our Jay & Bob DVD review went up last week, and, with apologies to Malcolm, our Drawing Flies DVD review is still on the way. We wanted to get the review up by today, and it’s partially written already, but instead of doing it half-assed we want to do it right. So, bear with us, we promise to have that for you very soon, and that the disc isn’t deserving of the reviews that have been popping up elsewhere. Be sure and buy copies of both! You can get them at the Stash, signed by their respective directors, a great deal. Enjoy the discs, folks, and watch for our full-length “Drawing Flies” review this week.

Jay & Bob IMDB’s Movie Of The Day!

December 17th @ 7:00 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Tom Perry, Kevin Gnat, Rob Ruff, Kelly Nine, John, John

  • Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back has the honor of being “Movie of the Day” at the web’s largest movie database, the IMDB:
IMDb Movie of the Day

Kevin Smith loathes pretension–he would rather his movies suffer than put on film school airs. Critics vilify his point-and-shoot directorial style and his studiously unsophisticated characters, but he will not compromise. He will not take himself seriously, and to those who do, he shows no mercy. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is an act of defiance, a distillation of everything Smith’s circle of fans love and those outside the circle hate. Allegedly the final movie set in the “View Askewniverse,” it moves Jay and Silent Bob, the convenience-store-dwelling Greek chorus in Smith’s previous movies, to the center of the action. Gone are any suggestion of real drama (a la Ben Affleck’s speech in Chasing Amy), any attempt to aim for a mainstream audience, and any tact. Homosexual advocacy groups have criticized the protagonists’ crude homophobia, but they’re missing the point. Smith realizes, as so few Hollywood liberals do, that the best way to fight bigotry is not to make self-important speeches (or movies), but simply to make it seem ridiculous. In this wildly uneven series of hilarious set-pieces, Smith sticks pins in many balloons—Miramax, the Utah police, internet movie sites (hey, wait a minute!)—but as always, to his credit, he pops his own right along with them.

Upcoming J&SBSB World Releases…

October 27th @ 2:06 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Steve Turner, Yonatan & Martin

  • Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back continues to move across the world, though some slight shifts in release dates have been confirmed. Both the Australian and German releases have been moved to 2002, February 28th to be exact. In Israel, the film will open on November 1st, as scheduled, at least according to previews screening in theaters there. We’ll keep on top of these and other release dates, as fans from around the world finally can get their look at this closing chapter of the View Askewniverse.

J&SBSB Box Office UPDATE…

August 29th @ 11:26 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Jim Austin, Brandon Gray, Glass, Roosta, Sunita Sharma, Alonso Duralde

  • According to IMDB, Jay and Silent Bob Strike back had the HIGHEST per-screen average box office this past weekend. J&SBSB earned $3,985.00 per screen while American Pie 2 earned $3,965.00 per screen. So, chances are if Jay & Bob were on the same amount of screens as Pie, it could have taken the #1 spot. Of course, Pie was on over 3,300 screens, a really crazy number. In Canada, the film came in at #5 last week.

Box Office Mojo is tracking the flick’s daily box office, including percent changes in business.

Yahoo Movies reports that Jay & Bob moved up to Number TWO after Monday’s box office takings. The gap between it and American Pie 2 is roughly $40,000, a far cry from the $1.5 million over the weekend! Cumulative total: Almost $12.3 million after 4 days.

This weekend, the new blood comes from Lion’s Gate’s “O”, which we actually screened last night and dug, as well as Jeepers Creepers, which promises a return to the horror genre in its purest form. Both flicks will likely bring in some crowds, but they also cater to different audiences than J&SBSB, so expect Jay & Bob to bring in some more cash as well, especially if the word of mouth from last weekend carries on.
