The “Spaced” Signing…Is OVER!!!!

July 24th @ 5:18 am | | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We can now at least let the jealousy end, as we can no longer pine for attending the “Spaced” signing which took place at Stash West inside Laser Blazer on Wednesday. Were you there? Have a blast? Meet the gang? Talk Back and let us know, especially if you’ve got some good stories or photos. The line wrapped around the block yet all who waited patiently left with signatures. We hope you all took our advice and got a nice spot in line to avoid a long wait. Everyone headed over to the Arclight theater for a post-signing screening last evening.

Along with the “Spaced” gang, Kevin hits the con in San Diego this weekend, you can hear he and Scott chat about all his upcoming panels arouns 6 minutes into SModcast #58 this week. Kevin does a panel Thursday, 2 on Friday (one being his very own, where the first live footage of “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” may be seen), and a final star-studded event on Saturday. Whew! We’ll of course have the full dish on the panels and other events at San Diego as they come in — We swear, one of these years we’ll figure out a way to snag press passes and get the heck out there! Keep your eyes open for a weekend wrapup as reports from the con hit the News Askew desk. If you’re there, or were there, don’t forget to drop your old pals Brad & Chris a line and let us know what’s up.

EXCLUSIVE - For our wonderful readers (that’s you!), Ron of Laser Blazer has done something amazing - He has an extremely limited amount of SIGNED SPACED DVDs available for immediate purchase. And we are talking WAY limited here, like a number that is less than 50. Less than 40 even. Yeah, that few. So if you want one, order RIGHT AWAY. Here’s where you can get one. Don’t delay, as these will be gone really fast. Maybe even by the time you read this.

I was so excited to hear that Spaced was coming out on DVD here in the States, and even more ecstatic to have Simon Pegg, Jessica Hyes and Edgar Wright have a signing at Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash!
I took the day off work, left my house at 4a, got to LaserBlazer at 4:45a. My bfriend and I were the 5th people in line! After the sun came up and the store opened, more and more people got in line and before we knew it, the line was around the corner.
It was time… 12:30! We all walked in with our DVD’s in hand, thrilled to meet Simon, Jessica, and Edgar. Before we knew it, we were rushed through the line unable to enjoy the experience or the opportunity to really talk to any of them. It was so rushed they lost one of our DVD’s.
I was so upset. It almost felt like a waste of time. Well, almost. We walked to our car and we were surprised to see Kevin Smith in the back of the store, smoking of course :-). I really didn’t want to bother him but I worked up the courage and we went over to see if he would take a picture with me and my bfriend. Just before we got to him a few others jumped a head of us. Patiently waiting, we were able to take a couple pictures with him.
Kevin was sooo cool and such a nice guy. I listen to SModcast every week and seeing him in person was just so surreal. Other fans started to come around and I knew he probably wanted to get inside so we left.
On to the Arclight. We got there and we were probably the 10th people in line. Sitting there for another 5 or 6 hours I was getting anxious and very tired. I tried to get that bad experience out of my head from the signing. I really wanted to sit in a comfortable chair and just watch Spaced.
Simon, Jessica and Edgar arrived with high fives starting at the end of the line. They finally got to the front where Simon and Jessica slapped my hand and kept going.
We got in the theater and watched 3 great episodes of Spaced. After, there was a short Q&A with Kevin Smith as the moderator.
Overall, I had a good time but disappointed with the signing and upset at that guy at LaserBlazer that rushed us out of the line like cattle. I don’t know who that guy was but I know it wasn’t the owner of the place because that guy was actually pretty cool. Maybe it was the PR but whoever it was is an asshole.
If it wasn’t for seeing Kevin and for him being so awesome and down to earth, my day would have been shit.
    THANKS KEVIN FOR BEING YOU.

It was a lot of fun. I have not been to many signings of this ilk but this was swell. I’d probably seen one episode of Spaced on TV before the car ride back home where I watched most of the first season but my friend (who is originally from L.A.) is a huge fan.
We got to Lazer Blazer quite a bit later than we had wanted to, at around 11 AM. The line really wasn’t that bad at that point and from what we could see as we were leaving it never got huge (everyone definitely got in, I can’t imagine anyone got turned away). After awhile the store was opened up for people to go in and shop, buy Spaced if they wanted to. I bought a Korean movie (I’ll just watch my buddy’s copy of the Limey show later). Once the line got moving (on schedule I think) it did move pretty briskly, which was nice if you were in line but kinda worrisome I suppose if you were planning on chit-chatting with Simon, Edgar and Jessica. After about a half hour we got inside the store and heard that Kevin wasn’t there yet. As soon as we heard someone say that, he walked in through the back door. I’m guessing about 30-40 people at the head of the line didn’t get to meet Kevin in the store.
We met blokes and my friend had an interesting little conversation with Edgar Wright that probably lasted about a minute and we didn’t feel rushed in the slightest. Jessica was lively and nice and Simon was friendly but we didn’t chat with them really because they wouldn’t sign my copy of Benny Hill Season 1. Everyone was smiles and good vibes.
Then we sort of moved towards the checkout counter where a new small line was forming to meet Kevin. My friend isn’t a big fan but I of course am. He was so fucking cool. It’s kind of a blur now but it was my first time meeting him and it was awesome. He signed my copy of Spider-Man/Black Cat and Chasing Amy and we took a picture together and talked for a minute. I tried hard not to ramble and almost hit him in the head when I was moving in for the picture.
We forgot our digital camera so I’m waiting for the disposable to get developed. No pics yet, sorry. We had work today so we couldn’t stay for the Arclight showing but we got what we came for and had a memorable experience. Bitchin’!
