Kev Q&A: The Latest Round…

March 30th @ 7:15 pm | | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We’ve got the latest direct from Kevin Smith today, including definitive words on the end of the Askewniverse, marketing, deleted scenes, and more. To start it off, he’s got a new “Zack And Miri Make a Porno” running time, along with a few fun facts:

Found another three minutes. As of 3/29, the flick is now 1 hour, 45 minutes long - eight minutes longer than “Clerks II” but at least five minutes shorter than “Chasing Amy” (once the credits are added in).

    And now, the Q&A:

Any plans on a series of Z&M Inaction Figures down the road a piece? Or is this Classified?

Kevin said: “I don’t see it happening.”

Will Z&M be the first VA film to be released on Blu-Ray?

      Kevin said: “No clue, sir.”

At this stage, is your next project (I presume “Red State”) becoming more paramount in your mind?

Kevin said: “Nah. It’ll be “Zack and Miri” for some time.”

How much of what you cut will you keep for an extended/Directors cut? And will you show it at Vulgarthon 2010?

Kevin said: “I won’t reinstate the cut stuff back into the flick. It’ll just wind up in the deleted scenes section of the DVD.”

Hey Kevin. I know that you closed the book on the Askewniverse. I’m curious if any of the new movies–Zack and Miri/Red State/etc.–will have any links with each other going forward? Not in a way that they’re all in their own world, but perhaps incidential things.

      Kevin said: “Nope.”

Do you have any say in what creative group or company works on your films?

      Kevin said: “Of course.”

How much collaboration do you have with the marketing people?

Kevin said: “This time, much much more than last time.”

I felt underwhelmed by the spots produced for C2. I know it’s a difficult job with only 30-60 seconds but they all felt rushed and really missed the essence of what the movie was all about.

Kevin said: “I agree. That won’t happen again.”

Will you be pursuing a podcast commentary, since this should be bigger than Clerks II?

Kevin said: “I think we’ll do it unofficially - like via SModcast, or something.”

Thanks once again, fans, for the good questions, and of course to Kevin for taking the time to answer. With this flick, it looks like a determined turn away from the Askewniverse, as well as a new way to market — We’re very excited to see how this one plays out. Of course, we’ll be there the whole way.

No more connections to the Universe, KEVIN has sold out, took the fans who built him into what he is, and liked the interlocking movies (even if it was a brief mention) and told them who cares, I am going “Hollywood”

    pure garbage

so, kev’s selling out because he refuses to rehash the same stuff over and over again? i mean i loved the askewniverse and if the man in charge of that universe wants to close the book then its his call…we have to have faith that he’s not a one trick pony…a true fan understands that

I’m with you “sickboy”. As, I’m sure MOST of the readers on this site are.

I highly doubt at this point, that people log on here every morning and say….”I can’t wait to see what Hijinks Jay and Bob are up to NEXT”.

The company is called “ViewAskew” and I’m not sure if you can get a MORE Askew View….than Rogen, Z&M or Red State (from what I’ve read)

    so breath easy.

Some might argue if Kevin just kept making the same movie over and over, THAT was selling out since he was doing what worked — After all, everything he’s done has turned a profit, and the Askewniverse characters are now a brand in and among themselves.

This movie is probably the most excited I’ve been since starting this job, because I’m really getting this feeling that this is the start of a new direction and a new attitude of how Kevin (and View Askew, yes it will ALWAYS be View Askew productions) approach films. Zack & Miri will be a great standalone comedy (with an almost entirely new to Askew cast), and the next one will be a major departure from anything that’s come before.

Bravo to Kevin and Scott for branching out and exploring more aspects of film — They’ve got a lot of years and a lot of different films in them — Let’s blaze some trails!

you people can not read, i said even 1 line in passing mentioning other askew characters, anything

but i guess since hollywood has told him, you need fresh charcacters to get to the next money level (him listening to hollywood is pathetic, since they are idiots when it comes to creating anything)

thanks alot for abandoning your fan base

    you sir, cannot write.

gsddd…wow. what a fan. i mean you must be like kevin’s biggest fan. to tear down a body of work in one lazyass paragraph with words like ’sold out’ and ‘pure garbage’. then to come back and try to defend your uber-love of kevin with the best line of all ‘pathetic’. what kind of fan are you. by the way, hollywood is not a person it does not create anything (wait, i went back and read your post agian…aparently hollywood is a ‘they’ as well. wtf.). damn. would you really feel upset if kevin wanted to helm the next summer blockbuster. i guess people can’t grow in talent or asperations. maybe kevin should go back and finish his Mallrats Trilogy. don’t get me wrong, he probally has a Mallrats 2 and 3 in him, but he has moved on.

thanks for staying true to yourself kevin. thank you for pulling out of the box. thank you for expanding your fan base and truely growing as an artist.

and you’re 100% positive that this entity known as “hollywood” told kevin to go in a different direction…it would be selling out if he kept going with jay and bob cause you know that would sell…with zack and miri he’s taking a big risk and it is something he wants to do, not something someone told him to do…i’m actually convinced after that last comment that you’re just a troll so i’m not even going to bother with you anymore after this…viewaskew is doing just fine without you as a fan, if you even were a kevin smith fan to begin with
